This house was built by Col. Decius Humphrey (1789-1878) who was a Justice of the Peace and served in the War of 1812.  Over six feet tall and known for his prodigious memory, he was Master of the Village Lodge of Masons from 1822 to 1824.  He was also among the first in the nation to raise merino sheep and experimented with growing silkworms.
